MobShare.in v2.0 :: Mobile Photo Sharing at its best!

Posted by Sony Joy on May 21, 2008 in Feature Updates, Help, Life

India going Mobile

By 2010, India will have 500 million mobile users & very optimistically maybe 20 million broadband internet subscribers. All broadband subscribers will definitely have a mobile phone, which means the real Internet users in India (not the ‘ever used’ types, but the ‘daily using’ types) unfortunately form an extremely small percentage of our Billion+ society. We wanted to come up with a product that could be used extremely easily from the Mobile phones & at the same time make it rich & exciting using the power of Internet. Internet would be a value-add, not a necessity to use Mobshare. Which means you can do almost everything from your mobile, that too without having to install any applications.

What do i need to get started?

You basically need a GPRS enabled mobile phone. Yeah, we know not many people have GPRS enabled phones now. But the fact is that almost 50% of the phones sold in the market right now are GPRS capable. Increasingly Mobile Operators are enabling users with free GPRS settings & charging users just the data usage rates. These rates are gonna go down to really low figures from the present day 10paise/10kb situation.

How do i access Mobshare?

There are 3 ways to start using Mobshare.

Mobshare.in Logo

1. www.mobshare.in

2. m.mobshare.in - Which can be accessed from your GPRS handset browser.

3. By SMSing ‘YourName‘ to 98465 55563 - Don’t frown, we will soon get a cool 5 digit short code to make things easy for you. Thanks to all the Mobile Operators, if things go well, we will launch this in the next few weeks. I’ll update it here once that happens.

I joined Mobshare. What Next?

The first thing to do after joining is to setup your Broadcast list. Add a set of your closest buddies whom you want to receive your photo updates, to your Broadcast list. They don’t have to be existing Mobshare users. You can add them by their Mobile Numbers. And they could be on any Indian Mobile Operator to receive your request SMS. Once you do this, now its their turn to accept your Broadcast request. When its through, you are ready to start Mobile Broadcasting.

Start clicking photos on your phone more than ever before & send them via MMS to ‘me@mobshare.in’. Yup… You guessed it right. Everybody on your Broadcast list (be it 10 or 100 or 1000) will get an SMS alert with the caption (subject) of your photo as well as the wap link to view & download the same. So the sender effectively reduces his cost by sending just one MMS (Rs 3 on most Mobile Operators). All the recipients who choose to download will have a very minimal cost of 10-20 paise to dowload the photos.

In a nutshell > Mobshare is a One-to-Many Mobile Photo Sharing Service (which is why we call it Your Mobile Broadcast) that saves you a lot of money, helps you overcome all the MMS inter-operable issues between Mobile Operators & gives you the convenience of reaching out to all your friends instantly from your mobile phone in a click.

Couple of new features just around the corner. a) Privacy Settings b) Rotate Photo : We felt these 2 were the absolute necessities among all the feature requests we received from our Beta Users.

Privacy Settings

There would be 3 mode of settings you can apply to each content (photo/video):

1. Everyone - which basically means anyone can see this content
2. Friends - Only those people on your friends list will have the necessary permissions to see this content
3. Broadcast List - Visible to people on your Broadcast list only
